Interstate brokers have a responsibility to the consumer shipper to take their role as the consumer's advocate seriously and to provide a level of service beyond merely recommending a motor carrier.  This book is designed to provide a summary of the governing regulations interstate brokers must adhere to in performing their services. It will also explain their role as the consumer's advocate and provide detailed instructions on how to properly vet and monitor motor carriers.  This book also provides templates, company policies, consumer advocacy letters, and tools to perform brokering services in full legal compliance.

Interstate brokers have a special role as a service provider in interstate household goods moving. Interstate brokers are a consumer's advocate during a move. When acting in their true capacity as the consumer shipper's agent, brokers can benefit consumer shippers by assuming the role of a consumer advocate, vetting potential motor carriers before the move, acting as the liaison with the motor carrier during the move, and assisting the consumer shipper in resolving claims/complaints with the motor carrier after the move.

It is critical that an interstate broker understand that their role is to advocate for the consumer shipper before, during, and after a move.  A consumer shipper relies on the experience and expertise of an interstate broker to ensure that the actual moving company performing the moving services is properly licensed, qualified, and will provide the consumer with a satisfactory moving experience.
